The 1st Christmas Tree

I just got my first Christmas tree ever! I went down to the local flower shop and ordered it, asking for one about chest-high, for 150 dirhams. (9:1 $ exchange rate) They told me it would take a couple days, so I came back. They took me to the back, and said they needed to increase the rate to 200 dirhams, as they had brought back a 10' high tree! It's considered very bad form to go back on an agreed price here, and I told them truly, I didn't know where I was going to put such a large tree; I didn't want a big tree; I had wanted a small version. So I got the 10 footer for the previous price. And then tipped a guy to carry it to my house a few block away, to figure out where to put it. We could put it in the middle of the foyer, the middle of the salon- or off in the corner, where we finally decided to put it- pictured here with the scrorpion lantern I picked up in Essouara.

Then I realized I had nothing to trim it with. So I put on it some necklaces, a Chinese good wishes sign, a Chinese folded paper crane, one real ornament, and 3 sebias- Muslim prayer beads. Oh, no angel, so if you look close, at the top is a Farengi smiling down on us. My rendition of the nativity story is really messed up...

Hey - you need to post a bigger pic of your tree. I can't see the Farengi!

I got my first christmas tree this year too! My roommate and I got a 4-footer. I brought some of my own ornaments from home and my roomie had clear and purple balls and purple beads to hang on the tree. The last few years I could only get a tiny little six-inch tree - like a rosemary plant - because I lived in the basement. =)

I've actually added to it right before I left for Yemen- I found that tinsel that goes on trees, that some few stores are using for decorations for the New Year in Morocco. I'll try to post an updated picture, as it really completes the tree.

Congratulations on the tree!
